Prenatal & Postpartum FAQ’s

  1. Is Pilates safe during pregnancy?

  • Absolutely, Pilates is an excellent choice of exercise during and after pregnancy. As your body is/or has changed to prepare for your new baby Pilates low impact, stability and resistance exercises are perfect to help keep the body strong & ready for recovery.

  • Not all class styles are suitable for pre & postnatal clients as pregnancy modifications do need to be implemented into your training & balance exercises performed at height on the machines are not suggested.

  • We do have suitable options for all pre & postnatal clients.

    2. Do I need a doctors clearance?

  • A written doctor’s clearance will be required for any prenatal & postnatal clients to begin/resume classes at The Park Pilates.

    3. What classes are suitable for Pre & Postnatal clients?

  • Regular Private Sessions are the best choice for Pre & Postnatal clients as the class can be tailored specifically to your individual goals as exercise adjustments do need to be made.

  • Our open level Group Reformer Classes are suitable for all Pre & Postnatal clients after a Prenatal Private Fitness assessment has been performed & group class participation has been approved by one of our qualified instructors. Please open level group classes will not be catered to 1 individual.

  • Dynamic Group Reformer Classes are not recommended for prenatal clients in their 2nd & 3rd trimesters. If you would like to continue with athletic style Pilates, please book private session so the class can be tailored safely to your prenatal modification requirements.

    4. Do I need to book a Private Prenatal Fitness Assessment?

  • It is required that all new prenatal clients enrol in a Private Fitness Assessment with our qualified instructor to ensure the right class plan is put into action and all personal modifications can be discussed to keep both baby and mum happy, healthy & thriving. After the assessment has been made, the instructor will discuss a plan of action and if they think you would benefit from group or private classes. Please note that every clients journey is different and what might be right for 1 client may not be suitable for others.

    5. I am in early stages of pregnancy, do I need to inform my instructor?

  • It is best to notify the instructor of your pregnancy as soon as you are aware you are pregnant. Minor modifications will need to be made to some exercises.

  • Please let us know if you would like to keep the pregnancy confidential.

    6. When is it safe to resume Pilates after giving birth?

  • Natural birth: 6-8 weeks postpartum is the general rule to resume any exercise with a doctor’s clearance.

  • C-section: you will need a full doctor’s clearance before taking any class including Private sessions. Generally the rule to resume any exercise after a C-section is 8-10 weeks postpartum or once clearance is obtained.
